There are two new members joining my big family recently. One is my cousin’s daughter, Emma Jade Gould, born on September 28 in England. Her father is British. The other is my sister’s son, whose name has not be given yet. He was born on October 7 in Taipei. I play with him everyday now.
Babies are truly blessings. However, Taiwan’s birth rate is decreasing tremendously. Two years ago when one of my nephews was born, the baby’s room in the hospital was full. Now less than half of the room is full. There may be many reasons that people don’t want to have babies. But when we try to reduce our burdens by having fewer babies, we are actually putting heavier burdens on the next generation. The government should offer incentives to encourage couples to have more babies. Taiwan needs to work hard on its children’s welfare system.
Last, I have some words for all parents: the best method to raise your babies is love. Give them love instead of money. That will make them love the world.
